Nonna's Judging You started as a bit of a joke in Italy around 2011. Like many things involving Italian families, the joke got slightly out of hand.
I'm Annalisa, an Italian-Australian designer from Adelaide, and NJY is my slightly ridiculous love letter to the culture I grew up in — the food, the objects, the traditions, the superstitions and, of course, the unsolicited opinions.
It's Italian-Australian life as I know it. Sugo on the stove. Espresso after dinner. Plastic covering perfectly good furniture. Things nobody is allowed to throw away. And a Nonna who can tell you've gained weight before you've even made it through the front door.
Everything is designed by me here in Adelaide, usually with one foot in nostalgia and the other firmly taking the piss.
Because Nonna might judge you.
But she loves you.
